Independent writing during learning through play!
Today lots of children visited the writing table and the additional phonics resources around the classroom. It was amazing to see lots of children using their phonics skills independently as they chose to write words and sentences. Well done class one!
Jack and the beanstalk magic beans!
Today we created our own magic beans for Jack to use to grow a beanstalk! We used lots of colours, shapes and patterns!
Representing amounts on the tens frame!
Today we worked in small teams to represent amounts 0-10 on the tens frame! We subitised, talked about the part whole, talk about doubles and found 1 less and 1 more! The reception maths skills are amazing! There was lots of excellent teamwork!
Lunar New Year Dragon!
We have we learning about the importance of the dragon in the Lunar New Year. We have created a huge dragon head ready for our dragon dances this week!
Painting Chinese symbols using mud!
We used mud to explore painting Chinese symbols in our forest school session.
Building words!
We used sounds to build civic words on a Chinese New Year Dragon! There was some super sounding and segmenting to spell!
Weaving a fruit basket!
Class one have been weaving and decorating baskets for Handa to carry her fruit in. We looked at traditional African bowls and recreated the patterns using pen. We also weaved paper and created fruit using pastels.
African style jewellery!
Today we looked at African style jewellery and created our own. We then worn our jewellery to dance to African themed music!
Printing using winter colours and patterns!
We mixed wintry blues and drew snowflakes, swirls and spirals to create winter patterns. We placed a piece of paper on top and created winter prints.
Handa’s surprise! We gave Handa a new hair style!
We threaded beads onto Handa’s and Akeyo’s hair! A great way to build our fine motor skills!
Matching amounts to numbers up to 5!
Today we peeled snowflake stickers(great for our fine motor skills!) and matched amounts to numbers 0-5. We know zero is nothing! We subitised along the way!
Maths hunt!
Class one went on a maths hunt around school during forest school! They subitised, recognised numbers and counted along the way. We looked at the numbers on car registration plates, found them on labels in the garden, subitised mole hills and counted parts of the trim trail! Amazing maths…
