At St Mary’s we pride ourselves on providing our children with a broad and balanced curriculum that caters for pupils between the ages of 3 and 11 years of age. Our Curriculum follows the 2014 National curriculum which gives a framework for learning in all of the curriculum subject areas through Programmes of Study. These are set out to show the teaching and learning objectives and expected outcomes. Our children study the full curriculum set out here in as much depth as we can.
Curriculum Intent Statement
We have created a curriculum that is ambitious and designed to give all our children, particularly the most disadvantaged, the knowledge and cultural capital they need to succeed. Our curriculum allows our children to gain knowledge as well as the skills they need for future education and later life. Our aim at St Mary’s is to get all our children ‘high school ready’ and equip them with the skills they need to be citizens of the future.
Our ethos is for all children within our care to be proficient in reading, writing, maths and technology before they leave us. To achieve this we have worked to create a curriculum that also extends beyond the academic and develops their interests and skills. Through carefully planned schemes of work we provide awe and wonder for our children and try to inspire them to be the best they can be. We believe that high attainment and attitude to learning go hand in hand.
Our lessons focus on 12 key learning intents that we believe showcase what an exceptional learner looks like within our school. By following these skill sets, working with local stakeholders and the wider community and with the other schools in our academy; we enrich the children’s education to achieve these intentions. See these in action through our blog pages and photo gallery. Our gallery
Our school motto is Believe and Achieve. This sits at the heart of our curriculum as we strive to develop our children’s characters - we do this though our learning toolkit which comprises of resilience, perseverance, creativity, problem solving, team work and leadership. By focusing on their character we set them up with the belief that they can be whatever they want to be and fly like eagles.
