Hi Class 3!

I hope you've had a wonderful start to the week! I've been doing some more decorating and had a go at baking some cakes.

The battle on timestable rockstars is very close with Year 3's just winning by a few hundred points at the moment! What a fab start! I wonder what the scores will be by the end of the week!? If you are struggling with certain tables you could go onto education city and play some of the timestable games on there or go onto https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button which is a really good way of practicing! I've heard that if you buy the app you can save your scores and set new high scores when you go on it too!

It's been wonderful to see some of your work! I really enjoyed reading Finley, Lawrence and Summer-Mae's description about the tiger in my kitchen and loved seeing Sophie working hard on her history work. Alex sent me some photos of him up a tree too which looked like a lot of fun and I've heard Sennan is working really hard. I'm sure the rest of you are working hard too!

For this week's home learning I would like you to undertake the following;

Start your day with Joe Wicks’ 9am PE lesson (or some active lesson such as Super movers or Dance with Oti Mabuse)

Year 3 work: Year 4 work:
Maths

https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-3/

Please complete week 1, lesson 3 on the whiterose website.

We use a lot of whiterose resources in school so these should be familiar. There is a video for the children to watch then activities to complete which can be completed in your exercise books.

*Parents - the answers are on there too!*

English

Today I'd like you to edit and improve your work from Monday like we would in school. If you have a purple pen at home you could use this, if not any other colour can be used. Your success criteria below must be checked and then start to think about how you could make what you've written even better. Could you change some of your adjectives? Could you change your sentence formation and start your sentence differently? Can you think of a better verb to use (if you walked into the kitchen, maybe you could have strolled or crept)?

Year 3 success criteria:

capital letters, full stops, exclamation mark, question mark, expanded noun phrases, adverbials, past or present tense verbs used correctly

Year 4 success criteria:

capital letters, full stops, commas, exclamation mark, question mark, paragraphs, expanded noun phrases, fronted adverbials, direct speech, past or present tense verbs used correctly

You could then publish it like we do in school, using your best handwriting!

If you need extra help thinking of different adjectives you could use these word mats which we use in school.

Reading

My friend has written a new story for you to listen to - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=URmxx_NpbIE - He loved the picture Summer-Mae drew from the last story!

Read books you have at home or listen to some on audible.

Parents please question your child on what they have read. Below are suggestions for questions for each strand of reading - we use these in schools in our guided reading lessons so the children will be familiar with the types of questions you may ask.

Topic

We were learning all about the Anglo Saxons. This week I'd like you to do some work on the Anglo Saxons. You could choose from some of the activities below.

-design and make your own anglo saxon shield

-create a presentation explaining what life was like for children during the Anglo Saxon time period (This could be a poster presentation or on powerpoint)

- research then make an anglo saxon boat

-complete some research about Anglo Saxons and write down the top 10 facts you find out

-Write a story set in the Anglo Saxon times

It would be great to share some of the things we do so feel free to email in any photos
