Monday 27th April

Arrrrrrr you ready for some learning all around pirates this week Class One?!

Have a go and try your best! (Or I will make you walk the plank you scallywags!)

Captain Coleman-Harris x

Begin by listening to the story ‘The Night Pirates.’

Go to the Class One dojo page and I will read you the story! Make predictions and talk about the main events, characters and setting as you watch it together. Enjoy me hearties!

You can also watch the story of the ‘Night Pirates’ here- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mdWxBn-xvrQ

Literacy

Can you create your own pirate treasure map? What locations will be on your treasure map?

Here are some ideas for places you could have on your treasure map:

  • Captains Cave

  • Monster Mountain

  • Waterfalls of Doom

  • Skull rock

  • Frightful forest

  • Dangerous den

Can you think of some of your own and use some alliteration or adjectives to make these places sound spooky? Talk about your ideas with your family. Then can you draw the places on your map. Nursery can then label the places with the initial sounds and any other sounds you hear in the word, or you can copy some labels with the help from your family. Reception can you use your phonics to independently label your map.

Here are some instructions that you can follow to make your own. https://childrens-binary.files.bbci.co.uk/childrens-binarystore/cbeebies/cbeebies-pdf-swashbuckle_treasure_map.pdf

Reading everyday

Try and read a little together everyday. Below there are some links to an e-library, some comics or you can use books you have at home.

You can share the reading with a grown up, read a little of a book across the week or read comics and magazines.

Nursery try and spot some sounds in the book you are reading and maybe your parents can sound out some of the words for you to blend?

Reception try and spot digraphs and trigraphs, and tricky words. Remember to use your phonics to help you read some of the words.

Make a prediction before you place the object into the water. Will it float or will it sink? What do you think? Why? What happens to an orange with and without its peel when you place it in the water? Can you sort and then record what you find through drawings or photos?

Can you use things from around the house and the garden to build your own pirate ship? Maybe you could use a box, washing basket, cushions, logs or sticks to build your own ship. What name will you give your ship? Can you design and make your own flag for your ship?

Create your own treasure chest

Use an egg box, shoe box or other packaging to create your own treasure chest! What will you use to create the jewels and coins inside? Maybe you could make your own jewelry to go inside your chest!
