Monday 8th June

Hello Class One,

This week our learning is around the story of The Princess and the Wizard! We will have some activities themed around the story and castle themed activities!

Maybe you could dress as a princess, knight or wizard for today’s learning! Have a magical week!

This week we will have a short Google meeting at 10am on Wednesday 10th June. I will be in school with some of your friends. We can have a chat and if you would like to bring something along that you have made this week from our learning around the story of The Princess and The Wizard to show us that would be fantastic!

Keep sending me lots of photos of the fantastic things you are doing at home.

Parents remember to do what you can (2 hours is plenty- this doesn’t need to be all in one go!) and to learn lots more through your own play too.

Watch the animated story of The Princess and the Wizard here

Here is the link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=babXCIRMjQM Make predictions and talk about the main events, characters and setting as you watch it together. What do you think of the characters? Why? What do you think of the Wizard? How would you escape?

Literacy-

Nursery and Reception

The Princess is having a birthday party in the story! Have you been to a birthday party before? What happened at the party? The Princess has lots of tasty treats on the table to eat at the party. What can you see? Can you create a menu of all of the tasty treats you would have at a birthday party?

First draw all of the lovely treats you would have! How would they taste? What size would they be? How many would you have? I would have gigantic, delicious cupcakes and crunchy, salty crisps.

Nursery can you label the treats you have drawn with the initial sound or more sounds you can hear? For example what sounds can you hear in jam? I can hear the initial sound j.  Then a and then m. Then tell your parents all about your picture and they can write down what you said.

Reception can you write some super sentences about what is on your menu. Use your phonics to spell and describe what treats you would have.

It is a hot bun.     The crisps are crunchy.

It is…    Lots of….   A big…

Create a menu

Continue to practice your letter formation

I have recorded a letter formation video for you to help you develop your letter formation at home. It’s quite long so you may want to just practice a few letters at a time. I hope it helps! When you open the link, it can be slow loading. Wait a while and it should start to work.

It is super to hear about how this is helping lots of you with your letter formation!

Maths

All Nursery and Reception children can have a go at completing some of the day 1 and 2 The Princess and the Wizard themed maths challenges over the next two days.

Here is the link. Click on Summer term- Week 7 (w/c 8thJune) and all of the activities for the week will be there. https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/early-years/

Other play based  maths activities for Nursery to work on throughout the week

  • Sort and match socks like the Princess!- sort them, match them, talk about the colours and patterns and then count them! You could also explore matching (cups, plates, forks, knives, spoons) and sorting things around the house by colour, shape and size.

  • Colour and shape hunt-go on a shape or colour hunt around the house and garden or on a walk around the local area. What colours and shapes can you find? Is it a light or dark colour? What shape is it? Can you describe the shape?

  • Counting skills-  count the birds you see in the sky. Can you record when you see one using a tally? How many did you count altogether? Can you draw that amount? What if you saw one more?

  • Play with castle themed toys and sort them in different ways e.g into knights, dragons, princesses etc. Can you make number labels for the groups? Which group has the most? Least? Same amount?

Other play based maths activities for Reception to work on throughout the week

  • Order and learn the days of the week-  sing the song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=loINl3Ln6Ck or maybe you could make up your own song for the days of the week. Then write the days of the week on paper, order them and talk about the different things you do throughout the week e.g on Monday I go to school, On Saturday I go to...

  • Count to 100 like the wizard -https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0TgLtF3PMOc

  • Order numbers 0-20, then count and draw the matching amount of dragons or princesses for each number e.g draw 4 wands, 10 dragons and 19 spell books.

  • Doubling-create some party food using printed pictures, dough, drawings or play food. Place an amount of up to 10 pieces of food on a plate, double it and add the same amount to another plate, how many do you have in total? Double…. is….

  • Sharing- make playdough birthday party food.  Use 2, then 4,6,8,10 pieces of food for the party, share them fairly between the two guests. What if there were 5 pieces of food to share? What if there were 3 or 4 guests? How would you share a whole piece of food  between 2 guests? Can you draw a picture to show what you would do to share the food?

  • Adding and subtracting using lots of practical resources (use castle themed objects if you have them)  and drawings where you can. Use number stories to help with adding and subtracting e.g there were 2 knights and 4 dragons, how many altogether? Make/draw/get the amounts of knights and dragons to help set up and solve this. Look at recording as a number sentence together 2 + 4 =  Continue to make your own number addition stories.

The Princess had 5 tiaras and then 3 were taken away by the wizard, how many are there now? Make or draw 5 tiaras, subtract the 3 (cross them out/take them). Look at recording as a number sentence together 5 - 3 = Now make some of your own subtraction number stories.

  • 1 more and 1 less- create some wizards using drawings.  What if there was one more? 1 less? 2 more? 2 less?
