Hello Class One,

 

This week our learning is around the story of The Dinosaur that Pooped a Planet! We will have some activities themed around the story, dinosaurs and space!

 

There are some other The Dinosaur that Pooped books to read together. Why not read some more this week too! Which story is your favourite? Why? Which parts make you laugh? Why?

What would you take on the day out? How are they behaving at the museum? How should they behave? Did they mean to send the rocket off? Why did it happen? How can we stop the dinosaur? Why is Danny sad? How could they get home? What did you think of the story?

Nursery and Reception

 

Danny and Dinosaur have had a super adventure. Where could they go on their next adventure together? Can you think of another adventure they could have together somewhere? What would they do while they were there? Maybe they could visit the sealife centre? The farm? The supermarket? The toy shop? Your school or even your house? What would happen while they were there? 

 

Nursery can you draw the next adventure Danny and the Dinosaur have together? Where will they go? What will happen while they are there? Your parents can help you with some of the sounds and you can take it in turns to write some of the sounds in the words. Tell your parents all about the adventure and what they would get up to. They can write down what you said or maybe you could have a go at writing some more words about what you would take too. 

 

Reception can you independently use your phonics to write about Danny and Dinosaurs next adventure. Then can you write some sentences to telling me all about where they went and what they did when they were there. Remember to use your phonics to spell and use the sentence check list to help you remember to include spaces, capital letters and full stops! Here are some sentence starters to help you.

Maths


 

All Nursery and Reception children can have a go at completing some of the day 3,4 and 5 The Dinosaur that Pooped a Planet  themed maths challenges over the next two days. You can pick a few of the activities to try out on here.

Numberblocks

These are a super way to learn and develop your maths skills. There are lots of episodes available on the iplayer. You could use a whiteboard or paper and join in with each episode by drawing the amounts or writing the number. Maybe you could make some numberblocks cakes, constructions or play dough creations too?

 

Other play based  maths activities for Nursery to work on throughout the week

  • Counting skills-  draw some stars and planets together. Can you count how many stars and planets there are and then create a number label? What if there was one more? One less?  

  • Order numbers 0-5 and then up to 10, then count and draw the matching amount of stars. Can you count out 10 stars to match the number 10 or 5 stars to match the number 5. 


 

Other play based maths activities for Reception to work on throughout the week

  • Order numbers 0-20, then count and draw the matching amount of stars or planets. Can you count out 20 stars to match the number 20 or 5 planets to match the number 5. 

  • Adding and subtracting using lots of practical resources (use pictures/toy rockets, stars and planets) and drawings where you can. Use number stories to help with adding and subtracting e.g there were 2 stars and 4 planets, how many altogether? Make/draw/get the amounts to help set up and solve this. Look at recording as a number sentence together 2 + 4 =  Continue to make your own number addition and subtraction stories. 

  • Number bonds to 10 Try exploring your number bonds to ten this week. Collect 10 stars how many ways can you partition them into 2 groups and find the total of 10. For example, I will put 5 stars in one group and 5 stars in another group and that makes 10 altogether. Can you find some more ways of making 10?

Role play

Build and set up your own rocket for your own space adventure! All you need is a washing basket, a box or a space that can be turned into a rocket! Use cardboard and paper to create a control pad with all the buttons you need to control the rocket. 

Remember to pack your bag using the list that you have written so that you don’t forget anything. Get into your space suit and the countdown 10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1,0 BLAST OFF!!! Off we go. What can you see out of the window? Where are we going to explore?

Build a rocket- what materials will you use?

 

CVC space words- build cvc words and turn them into a rocket when they are built.

Shape dinosaurs- what shapes have you used? Can you describe them? Why did you choose to use these shapes?

Save the frozen dinosaurs- set this activity up together, how can you create ice? How will you free the frozen dinosaur? What happens to the ice over time? Can you turn it back into ice again? How?
