Image of What are we learning next half term?

Class One have all worked very hard over the last half term and have developed their own individual skills and interests. We are very proud of all of them and look forward to seeing you all again after half term to learn some more together!

After the break we will be learning around the story of The Three Billy Goats Gruff! Get ready for lots of outdoor learning, role play, story telling, investigating, constructing and creativity!

We will also learn lots about summer (Hopefully the weather will improve next half term!), the seaside, mini beasts and continue to have fun in PE, outdoor learning, RE, PSHE and music.

Maths

In maths Reception will be continuing to learn with the White Rose Guidance. We will finish the theme First, Then, Now, and then move onto the themes Find my Pattern and On the Move this half term. Details on the guidance can be found here https://whiterosemaths.com/reception-sol/

In maths Nursery will continue to develop early sorting and subitising skills through lots of practical, hands on and outdoor activities. We love to learn maths through our songs and stories so we will continue to do lots more of this too!

Phonics

Reception are on Term 3 of their Monster Phonics learning. We are embedding all of the skills they have learnt in phonics so far. We will continue to learn the sounds, read and write with the sounds they know, read high frequency and tricky words, read words with 3 and 4 sounds in them and also read and write sentences. We will take part in lots of exciting activities to help us use and apply our amazing phonics skills. Remember to read at home as often as you can! The more you read the more confident your child will become with their reading.

Nursery are continuing to develop their phonological awareness in phonics through rhyme, initial sounds, oral blending, songs and stories. They will focus more on developing their oral blending skills (Adult sounds out the word and the child blends the sounds and says the whole word back). This is something you can help with at home too! You can introduce oral blending through the everyday things you do at home for example; Can you get your c-oa-t? Can they blend the sounds and tell you they need to get their coat!

Writing

Reception will continue to develop their independent writing skills using their phonics to help them spell. They will continue to develop their letter formation.

Nursery will continue to build their fine motor skills through activities like threading, play dough and cutting. We will work with them more this half term to develop their pencil control and grip. We will also look at name writing some more with the children that are ready.

We will also take part in some transition sessions with new friends this half term and get ready to move into our next year groups.

It is going to be another exciting half term!

Have a great half term everyone!
